Chuck Cassini walked into Eagle Magic Store in the early 70's; pointed at a die box and said what's that? I said let me show you this- and did nickels to dimes-he still wanted to see the die box, so i did the die box. Chuck said he could make a die box better looking and cheaper-[we had heard that before.] We had forgot about "Charles" 3 months goes by and in walks a guy with a black shirt w/ yellow dots [unbuttoned to the waist] gold jewelry, neck -wrist's & fingers.. holding a "red owl" grocery bag with inside -yes; a beautiful die box. He quickly explained - he could not sell it to us for the price promised,but for a few more $'s he could make ems die box's. So that's the beginning of Charles Daniel Cassini- "Magical Creations"-He was always hanging around Eagle Magic Store figuring out the "secrets" of the tubes, boxes & screens. After a year or so- we saw a Genii ad-full page; a attractive woman holding a Cassini made prop;[ must of seen a Richard Himber ad]-Cassini "elegance in magic" and Chuck was in the "magic" business.

Busy summer at the store & and at home-New; insulation-roof- furnace- deck-doors [7] also play'd golf never did that before with Jennifer, i might be able to learn this game - have this looking terribly bad & not caring thing down.I look forward to playing more/ taking classes -Everyones invited to E.M.S tricks & jokes stop in and find something to make you happy.

Joe Lyon Hoezel is at the S.A.M Convention. Performing for a spot; to compete at the F.I.S.M Convention. And we wish him luck. Magician of the Living Dead [use to be] / is the character and many amazing tricks happen, in a muted "Zombie" type fashion. Cards & Coins & Balls are manipulated in a quit unbelievable fashion. Once "Magic's" in your Blood- very hard to drain.. almost impossible. Some say Magic is a waste of time and money and leads to moral and mental decay. Well i don't see that at all. Magic and magicians are the best buy for entertainment and mental & mind challenging creativity at any level- amateur or professional.

Never fun to be sick

My son John and his girl friend had a fun filled week at a family wedding in Cancun, Mexico. They each ate a" bad" cheese burger at the airport [ in Mexico]-and came back will food poisoning. When they arrived home John called from the airport and asked us to take them to the hospital- we did. Jennifer sent most of the early morning there at the hospital with them, then they spent a couple days here recovering before going back to college. I've adapted to getting sick only on Saturday afternoon's and can spend Sunday in bed to recover- [ from whatever] In the 40+ years of being behind the counters here at Eagle Magic Store- I've missed less than 1 week due to illness.

Spring- Time work and repairs now underway. The end of the winter trip to Las Vegas was fun. Visited with Norm & Lupe Nielsen; and they showed us the Poster Collection- Marvelous. So Jennifer was "blown -away" and really enjoyed the opportunity to meet these legends of Magic. Also visited Gary Darwin and we saw his excellent book & apparatus collection. Gary like Norm are not only magic collector's and historian's but very talented magic performer's. With his world class collection and his knowledge of magician's & magic history and Norm's ability to build beautiful, quality magic apparatus makes him a unique Magic Treasure. Saw four magic shows while in Vegas. The always amazing Mac King, the occasionally funny amazing Johnathon, and the how can this be.. believe w/ Criss Angel- and also the "he's earned every penny of it"- David Copperfield. Around Eagle Magic Store- Had Ward Hall in the store to lecture- "king" of the outdoor Showman- good crowd everyone had a nice time. Bill Carter was my contact; and after here Ward and Bill & Bill's wife Arron went to Magic Inc. in Chicago for another lecture. Bill is now on the road with a circus as an Advance Man- Good Luck Bill and have fun. I have a couple large Illusions for sale- if you need classic Magic Illusion at a great price- give me a call. Rick Smith Jr. & Tiffany stopped in looked around, had a nice conversation- they're busy at work here in this "Metro" with school shows- hope to see them back soon. I was a big hit at the Burnsville Rotary Club Luncheon recently telling the Eagle Magic Store history lesson and doing a few magic tricks. If you haven't visited for awhile put me on your list. Very cold here in Minnesota 15 below zero this morning- the snow & cold has never kept me away from the store all these years. Rode to Eagle Magic Store on a snow mobile more than once. Sean & Juli Niemiec back in town after a year in Tennessee. They were headliners in a large illusion show- I've heard it was "Fantastic" They even have a dvd for me to prove it. Thanks. Rumor has it local close-up wizard & artist Steven Carlson with his wife Pat -off to sunny Arizona for the Renaissance Festival. [Have fun; kinda wish i was going with] Bill Carter stoped by to chat; always fun and informative to talk with Bill. -Steve Rod, Joe Otto, Joe Lyon, Matt Dunn all recent visitors-[old home week we call it] Results of Americas got Talent; to be posted soon- [experiences and such] please keep me in mind for your used magic tricks. Jennifer & I performed a Magic Show at a New Years Eve party. A Russian new years eve party. Very fun group. I did strolling close-up magic tricks & mingle magic. Jennifer took a few pictures and chatted with guest's; then our stand-up show. Beautiful tables full of hors d'oeuvres and liquor & wine. The host of this $125.00 a head party kept asking if we care to have some wine. I'd reply maybe later- but i wasn't really very interested. A great band, lady singers, belly dancing, fiddle player- Russian dancing. The entertainers had there own table, and the food kept coming- full sit down dinner; everything was running a little late- and we figured we weren't going to make it to our family newyears eve party- so Jennifer and i sat down and had great food and a one drink each. This was one of those o.k. times to have a drink with your audience. I'd imagine most magicians have done a magic show when they didn't feel well; kind of sick- starting or ending a cold. This past summer i did a childrens b-day party at a local Country Club- didn't feel well, also very hot day. Lugged my table to far [should have dropped it a the front door] found the room - said hi to the folks- said i'll set up over here and do the show over there. o.k. fine- went to the bar for a well deserved glass of water. The bartender say's " Hi Larry!- do you remember me?" and i did - i had taught him magic classes, back in the 80's. So we talked and i had a second glass of water, and did the show. Well when your sick you probably don't do as good a job as when your not sick. Shows over; get my check - leave my stuff by the front door- then go to the parking lot [a.k.a the south 40] pack and leave. Well later i hear rumblings about the magician [me] drinking and i guess they meant booze- oh well. So maybe the lesson learned wether it's high octane or club soda bring your own. Happy New Year.

Minnesota has had to much snow already [a record breaking amount] largest amount of snow fall every; here in Mn. And Merry Christmas !..by the way. Also- Jennifer totaled her car, lost her job and had a root canal all in the same week. I suggusted we switch sides in the bed- she said if we did that the roof would fall-in on her. I do have some serious ice dams on the roof - son john's home from college; so up on the roof he went [ it's difficult throughing a 200 pound; 21 year old, adult male on the roof] but i did it -and my job was done- and i told him to get to it. After hours of work- 400 pounds of salt-several broken tools, on my end 1/2 pizza and 3 beers, i put the ladder up against the building and let him down -mission accomplished. Thank God for children. Well i'm lucky to have been able to make a living selling magic tricks and jokes all these years; jennifer,kendra, adel & john have all been very helpful and understanding. The Duluth Magic Club visited EMS today- and a very friendly group they are. Mark Lundblad [ St. Paul -locksmith & Houdini expert] led the way. When John Bushey and crew arrived they got the tour and then they found themselves some magic tricks old & new. Thank-you gentlemen. So another busy day here at Eagle Magic Factory, which is a name Collins Pentz used in the 30's. That 's when we manufactured magic tricks & published books. Don't through away your old magic tricks- bring them in to be recycled; i have people young and old who would be interested. i'n starting a new collection -Playing Cards; keep me in mind for funny and old looking decks of Cards.

Had fun talking escapes with Jonathon Bryce & Paul Kresey- We were exploring how one could turn their belt into a handcuff type restraint, very interesting. I suggested he combined it with the Professor Cheers trick- could make for an interesting out-come.Comedy escapes not always intended to be so. Past Sunday, Jennifer, Daughter Kendra & her Husband Jason and Me, visited Mn Ren Fest- perfect weather. Brother Paul West- Franko- Steve Carlson -Wackey Chickens- Danny Lord -ran into these showman, and had a nice chat, one and all. One of the busiest days i've seen out there - had to park on 169 and walk in. I was exhausted at the end of the day. Now a days the call for the "hat" comes to early & last's to long. Years ago it was " if you liked my show?" "i'll be at the back of the hall." Thank You- goodnight.-Jennifer has said more than once i should have put a "tip- bucket" on my counter 20 years ago. & that ['people have more fun watching you demo tricks than watching nude mud wrestling] Oh really- Ya... Steve Paul Carlson is a long time friend-[and my favorite artist] he's created a couple Houdini illustration Prints; just Beautiful- take a look. {talking about beautiful images-} I have a number of both original litho's & reproductions for sale here at the store. Jennifer put together a great group of people for my 6oth b-day dinner. Dave Malmberg the ventriloquist Extraordinaire performed [i didn't know he was a Vikings fan] Then the next morning went to Taos, N.M. for 2 days & Phoenix for 2 days-almost fun. I have a marvelous Axtel Gorilla Puppet $250.-[ just beautiful ] Getting interested in ventriloquism. I have both vent figures and puppets. More pictures next time from Birthday party. Larry.

So where have i been? well lets see..In a land far far away, with Magic & Magicians and beautful distractions of all kinds, Painted tubes-boxes and Screens.. cards & dice & coins; ropes and silk handkerchiefs.. so what i've done is take some time off and boxed up some of this crap and took it to the dump. We [i] used to save empty card boxes- old "ratty silks"- rope ends [short pieces of rope from cut & restore] twisted pieces of coat hanger[some forgotten gimac] small pomm pomm's- small wooden balls - large rubber balls. You don't want to throw away some little plastic sword, cause you think it's from a Tenyo trick from the 70's. People bring in a box of used magic tricks and ask what i think it's worth - I look inside [ old metal tin's- clothe purses - plastic purses - cloth bags- plastic bags " they say-i guess you can put your linking rings in there" shiney boxes that have pictures of playingcards- cardboard boxes that have pictures of rabbits- a rabbit vase... this is crap they got at the 'thrift-store' These aren't magic tricks this is GArbage! then they smile and say "you could put your rings in that bag." Then i go off on them and suggust; i'd like to help them put their rings in their "sac"- So of coarse that doesn't go over well. So that's where i've been - actually i'm not going to say where i've been.[Thankgoodness we have insurance] I had a small a b c blocks on my desk for years- [no shell] I'd say to myself everday you can do it.. you can do it.. toss it, get rid of it.. ya o.k.- Finally, whipped into the garbage can, turned off the light's and went home- goodriddens. My anniversary present to Jennifer, this year was, i'm going to get rid of the magic tricks and illusions in the garage so she can park her car inside this winter. She said this is the nicest present you've ever given me. [I'm not sure on that response] I don't know.. it's going to be tuff - I found the small shell for the abc block's -and i'm not happy about it. It's a bad omen. So hoping your fine. Just a great wedding - Will have pictures soon. Adel Kahlow & Don Irwin married 5-28 2010. Burnsville performing arts center all decorated beautifully- both ceremony & reception at the BPAC. Adel and Don graduated from college the week before Don from U of M Duluth -Adel Bethel. They are on a Honey Moon cruise ship, expected back this Sunday. Then another party and they get to open present's. A few magic friend's performed close-up magic for wedding guest's- all the magic very well received- although I was planning on putting a head twister on the Groom and I forgot to bring it. [left it on the dinning room table- darn] We got started that day at 8am and didn't finish until 2am the next morning- WE were exhausted mentally & [yes]physically. Jennifer did a great job with the decoration. Kendra & Jason and john-always helpful.And couldn't have done it without Don's parent's and sister and brother- Thank-you to all. Came close but didn't have to sell any Kellar posters or Houdini autographs. I will be digging out more stuff to sell from the back room so stay tuned- also a lecture or two soon. Best Larry.

Very hot here in Burnsville today [90 degrees]-almost as hot as Cancun. I was in Cancun 3 weeks ago, with Jennifer, and brother & sister in-laws- ate, drank, got up late, sounds like another week at home. But it was fun to get away- I did a impromptu cups&balls routine one night at our group dinner table-everyone including bus-boy's thought i was as good as copperfield. I'll be doing a cup and ball class in July -please call for details. Adel, daughter # 2 graduated from college last weekend - and get's Married this weekend- Groom Don Irwin. escapes anyone?

Last month I had Karl Achilles into lecture about escapes, also all the fun stuff that happens with magic & escapes on the sideshow & carnival lots- can up in the discussion - great fun. The danger associated with escape magic was talked about. I've been interested in this area for years myself, and always stress the concept of safety first and last. I once had a youngster in the Eagle Magic Store- who wanted me to help him with a escape- he had sold the idea to the Aquatenial committee to be tossed off the third avenue bridge.. I stop him and said -I'm not interested. Just got back from Cancun for a week with Jennifer and her 3 beautiful sisters- so i should take a trip once in a while. Brother Rick here at the store -he knows little about magic & magicians but appears to be well intended. I have, a pair of gimac'd hamburg 8's for sale. Also a medium strait jacket. very nice -just ask. Larry.

Hello- The S.A.M. [Society Of American Magicians] meet's the 3rd Friday of the month here at E.M.S. [ Eagle Magic Store ]- Great fun, interesting conversations- Starts at 7:30- visitor's welcome. I can remember performing on the sam 's annual show- once as a teenager the closing act couldn't appear, I was ask at the last minute to substitute- and pulled it off. I used a large square circle as my last trick- had my 3 year old sister Kiann carried-out a large pouch- read Orange seed's - poured 'em in -she had a watering can - then I lifted fake & tube up with one hand ...square with the other hand- oranges rolled all over the stage- Everyone loved it -cute kid did help. Welcome- This beautiful red drawer Box [4by6] is one of the best ways to vanish or produce sm. to med. item's. [$45.] One of the most deceptive utility props that has ever been devised. I'm constantly reminded how-well & effective classic apparatus can be in front of an audience with standard and basic presentations. Today I removed a handkerchief from my pocket placed it into the box taped with the wand -silks back in my pocket- i got the desired response He said "How did you do that?" I Grinned- and he bought one. Yes- I've done some silly & dangerous stunts in my life. Here's a picture of Larry Kahlow & Larry Anderson doing a Ariel Strait Jacket Escape in downtown Minneapolis in 1967. We had practiced the day before to determine who would be hoisted -up. I came up with the rigging so i thought he should be the one to fly. We're both lucky he lived. It was spectacular!!- went up 5 stories. I was very frightened for him- [ my jaw dropped] and yes he's alive and doing well in California.- Larry worked for Mark Wilson Productions for many Years & now a successful Actor.- Kahlow.

Hello- Here's a great trick -called, Incubator. Magician removes the lid of the Yellow tube & shows interior empty. He fill's the tube with strips of newspaper- then in go's an EGG, then more paper, & replaces lid. Holds the tube over a burning candle for a couple seconds- removes lid pull's out cage with live bird's. Yes -it's a fooler. No longer made- $150. This is fun to perform and i give it a 5 star rating- Kahlow.

When in Mpls/St. Paul - Please visit [Burnsville is 5 minutes from the Mall Of America] Had some nice people in from Wisconsin- spent so much money they were thinking about not going to the Casino-[ which does suggest your always a winner here at Eagle Magic Store.]If i liked to type; these blogs would be longer- John Mendoza could type like crazy - I mean fast, i said "how many words do you type per minute?" he said 150- Wow!.. I asked- any mis-spelled words -He said most of 'em. I have an old typewriter from Collins Pentz - and I'm sure he put together much of the Magazine - "The Eagle Magician" with that typewriter. I would pull it out and use it once in a while - kinda of fun sitting at a desk [over 110 years old] with a very ancient typewriter- typing up an invoice or an order to magic wholesalers [who are now closed] or magicians[who are now dead] I think you understand.. the business & magicians at the time- where alive and now dead [as i reflect] the machine isn't a spiritualism typewriter that can communicate with the great "beyond" -I don't think. Eagle Magic Store use to advertise in all the monthly publications- It would read- When in Minneapolis- Minn. that is - Visit -Write Or Call. That Beyond business would be a heck of an extension. Still very much snow here in Burnsville-icy driveways -rodes- sidewalks.Years ago i might have [3] magic shows on a Saturday Or Sunday. More than once, because of the weather i got there late- v.f.w.- Legion Hall- Church basement.MC or [Santa]see's me come-in[I'd already set up a vanishing cane and walk in with] "And here he is our magician Larry Kahlow"- Oh really, maybe i should set up a couple magic tricks.So again [sorry to say]- more than once- i'd just roll my nightclub table thru the audience of children and adults - open it up pull out the crystal chilendar-hippity hop rabbits - temple screen-and start to set up the show right in front of everyone. I'd stop.. spin the cane- cane changes to silk handkerchiefs. "lets get a boy and girl up here to help with a magic trick.." 2 ropes.. tie one rope to the boys two wrist- loop the 2nd rope over the first and tie to the girls wrist. And i explain to the audience they can escape from the ropes without untying them by twisting and turning and stepping over each other and for them to get started. It ended up being very funny -audience laff's like crazy. I set up the rest of my show and nobody cares. Then i stop them conduct the escape, send them back to from whence they came. Weve had a large snow storm here in the mid-west. Not many people visiting Eagle Magic Store today. To bad i bought candy canes. Well looks like i'll just have to eat them. Last year when i lost the 50 pounds- people asked how ya do that? - i'd reply fear of God..and they'd quietly walk away.I'd eat just fruits & vegetables. No candy cakes pies or alcohol. Now [this time of year] i'm back to eating everything- last time i had a vegatable it was in a bloody mary.- Oh well tis the season.I learned to bake with my Grandma - i'd actually bake a cake- to produce in a dove pan [at b-day party's] when i was a kid. Back in the days when i'd iron my silk handkerchiefs for every show. learned a technique from a road warrior[ motel 6 guys] get your silks wet- ring'm out- stick'm to the wall or mirror and when they dried and fell to the floor they were done clean & no wrinkles. I've got fire bowls-dove pans -chick pans- nice abbotts one to sell. keep me in mind - Merry Christmas!! - and of course happy holidys. Larry Kahlow.

Howdy- Jay Ose[of magic castle fame] use to have a card selected returned to the deck -hand the deck to the spectator. Jay would say "do you have a dog?" - Yes , deal a card down on the table for each letter of the dogs name- o.k.- turn over the last card spell't [dealt] and it was the selected card - now isn't that fun. I had a rabbit i could class force a playing card on [love'd to munch on tallyho's] then i could predict the selection.I once had a wizard visit the e.m.s. with a 12 foot python and said- he wanted to be able to vanish the snake. And i said let me go in the back room and get you one of those- then i made a move for the back room, turned and said "do you think i have something on the self , in the back room like that?"- he says i was hoping - "well i don't" We talked more and i said give 100$'s and come back in a week - i came up with a method to vanish his snake. I have doves & rabbits again a lot of work to take care of; audience's of course love them- i sometimes carry a dove around in my pocket here at the store- just pullz'm out -people are startled - is that a real bird - nope new item, just a wind up - let's see if it flys. I have a medium strait jacket in stock and a nice gaffed set of hamburg 8's [handcuffs]. I've been interested in escapes & locksmithing off and on for decades. And have been stuck in handcuffs, that i couldn't get out of- not very funny when your in panic. Not so many years ago that was the situation-first thing in the morning [sexton bldg.] i managed to put on a pair of hamburg 8's [that are to small for me] my hands are getting numb-[& a bluish color] I'm thinking I'm panicking-wow.. I better go around the corner and have someone in the smoke shop help me out.. no can't do that ..i'd never hear the end of that. I look out the window and i see 2 work men in a truck- i go to the truck and say to the guy in the passenger seat- put the key in the hole and push down .. he does and i'm out -i say thank you as i'm walking away. I get a phone from the mpls. police department saying there's been a call someone is running around handcuffed with a gun..in front of Eagle Magic Store.. I say no it must be some-kind of misunderstanding.. then i hear laughter on the other end of the phone - and they say we'll be inside in a second..Well the driver of the truck [who i didn't see] was a customer of mine and he and his buddy thought it was all very funny.. Amazing Kahlow the escape artist.

Merry Christmas! and of course happy holidays.This time of year is always great fun. I remember getting a crystal silk cylinder for my 12th Christmas. And i used that trick in every performance, for years- the bottom fell off-made another out of duct tape. When using the c.s.c. have the tube w/gimac nested in the cylinder- remove tube with gimac to show cylinder empty. Good magic thinking can be learned even at a young age or as a novice.The U. F. Grant dvd's are out & now available i was entertained and amused.If you need a set just stop in- Please remember if you know of anyone who needs a magic kit i have a big stack off them- many "magicians" started w/kit. Also i have some old kits in the backroom i want to sell.Jennifer says to come home early all this week -i'll be wrapping Christmas presents- once again i'm glad she has a job. I've been booking and performing the "Magic Birthday Party" Show here at Eagle Magic Store [the oldest magic store in the U.S.A.] And everyone has been loving the show. It's entertaining -educational- with some easily understood history regarding magic & magicians- and Eagle Magic Store. Rabbit wringer

I've been using doves and rabbits in some of the magic shows; again. Since the move all the time at the in house birthday parties here at Eagle Magic Store- always a big hit. Back in stock Neilsen dove and Abbotts rabbit wringer- and a [Grant]- Mak "Indian head Chest" drop box- that looked cool before it was painted and now also looks great-- re-painted. Several collectors said you shouldn't have painted that - it was 30 years ago. Local magician "Franco" stopped in -he's doing hypnotism at the Ren Fest. He's playing to Hugh crowds- he explained- audience's just don't see much in the way of hypnotist's any more- and there mesmerized with his one hour show. I should have continued my interest in hypnotism-when i talked to people about my show -a steely eyed; dopey glazed dazed look appears on their face [ put 'em to sleep just like that ] So trying to book novelty type acts continues to be a challenge- Magicians -jugglers- ventriloquist- hypnotist- good luck to one and all. In Minnesota we have more than our fair share of very talented "Novelty Entertainers" Larry .

Many people in from out of town today-Mom's & Dad's- sons and daughters. [great fun] i don't have all the latest and greatest tricks - but it's nice that people can just find something for the shelf- i appreciate that -and it's easy to do with all the stuff i have. I have a Klein Copentro- Mafia Manicure- Delben Blotter- Mc Coll Hamburg 8"s [gimac] above a couple Thayer magic tricks- i'm looking for more apparatus with interesting decorations like these -please keep me in mind. Until the end of August the vhs tapes in the back room are 25% off and the dvd's in the front are 10% off. A recent happy student was tempted to repurchase some tricks, he thought were incomplete. I said,- no need- it's all here and here's how it works with all the improvements. Friend Dave Malmberg recently reminded me of many fun Saturdays at the Richfield "magic -club". One show i turned a friends production screen up-side down[ couldn't tell with the chinese lettering, which end was up]- silk handkerchiefs were rolling down his pants leggs and the audience was "howling" the magician had no idea; as he was showing the screen empty- the silks were appearing. I have close-up mat's for $5.- [11"/14'] The summer is going by fast. My b-day is August 25th-and Jennifer and i are trying to figure what to do. Daughter #2 got engaged recently to a great guy, i might add- Donald, talented in many way's. And now more wedding plan's. {we start all over again}. Newly married Kendra[#1]- and her husband Jason seem to be doing well- [ we seldom hear from them] still getting settled in. I'm looking for "old" & "used" magic tricks- if you have , or know of- Please give me a call. I had a signed Houdini picture in the showcase once and a customer asked-" is that valuable?"- i said would you give me a hundred dollars and they said no they had to pay rent- i said that's fine. I have some old books in the back room if you want to take a look. I had a couple magicians from Montana in the store today-they found two books in the store that i thought i lost and now there on the way to Montana. I was talking to a man from New Jersey today and out of the blue -he says do you have a buzz saw illusion and i said, " yes i do"- and he said "Ya do" - and i say why would i lie? He's checking into the price of a u-haul. Now that i'm thinking about hauling big illusions -i was delivering a zig-zag to somebody in Rockford, Illinois. and got into an accident and had to discount the price of the trick- yes those were the day's. I have someone who would like to sell a beautiful tip over truck - i have no room - great price if interest please call, Larry.

Let me be the last to say- Harry fourth of july - no i guess, i mean Happy 4th of July. And then what's "happy" about it. We're getting our butt kicked from here to Tuesday. Celebrate Independence and entrepreneurial endeavors & experiences., o.k. how do we do that? Community- Politics- Cultures- can save that for a future blog. [or face to face] Magic talk - Had a guy who wanted a puff of smoke - couldn't lite anything. In fact wanted fake smoke or pretend smoke. No flash paper- no flash powder- no flash pots. And then- Color changing knife use to be a favorite pocket trick when i was in 5th grade- Oh we'd have a problem now wouldn't we.. lighter fluid, gun powder[i actually use, to use- gun powder- don't tell] NO- you can't use a snake can in your show-peanut allergy's. Crack an egg in a public building- let me look that up; that might be illegal, definitely a waste of resources- Hey "is that a free range Egg?" Blank gun suppose i shouldn't use that - what no" bang" gun either. Oh no, i can't have a kid stand up in the 2nd row point his finger and say "bang" and the balloon breaks and the cards in the balloon.. I see; he can't point his finger-but he can say [bang- if it's not to loud] BUT what... no Latex! So it's all going into the fire pit... jap box -chink can's- afghan band's- well since were having a fire might as well throw in the bra trick- Oh-- o.k.-- i should have guessed "no burning" i'll see if it all fit's into the compactor- or good will- or something... bye for now -i'm going home to repaper my temple screen to say- have a nice day. Kendra's wedding day went great. Rained Saturday morning but cleared up by noon. Family & friends dined on food from Joey Nova's and the music of David Malmberg. The afternoon salt & peppered with comments; suggestions and well wishes. Jennifer and I were exhausted after all was said and done, and couldn't muster the energy to attend a evening extended family party. Kendra & Jason left immediately the next day on their Honeymoon. Odd word -where did this word come from? {Conjures up all kinds of terrible images- sweet gooey goop & the evening sky} When J&L did their h/m we did two fast days in Duluth and a canoe trip. Kendra and her husband- a week cruise, then back to San Juan for another week at a resort. But i've never traveled well - always feel guilty about being away, and i don't make enough money to see a psychiatrist. I've had a friend who's been very sick, and died today, Bruce Jensen. Bruce and GiGi have been very close friends with Jennifer and I and it was difficult for us to see Bruce struggle & suffer as much as he has these final few day's. So we wish GiGi peace as Bruce goes to meet his maker. The end of my friends life and my daughters new life, "Lifes" spinning wheel within a wheel spinning faster & faster day after day- often difficult to deal with the highes and low's. Today had a great group of kids in the store. From a summer school magic camp. They had a prior introduction to magic and were able to appreciate more powerful thinking and concepts.[cool] And they had some ideas of magic tricks they wanted to buy [double cool]. My [3] children Kendra Adel & John have been around magic & magicians but not immersed like i was as a child. By the time i was 12 years old i was doing b-day parties for people i didn't know. "Don't talk to strangers" - that's all i talked to - strangers. And my children have had a more conservative life. None of my children have said "pick a card" to me; when i was sitting on the toilet. Which i did to my mother; i understand more than once. So children grow up. Some adults wish to relive their childhood- sorry you can't. Al tough you can get close- "magic Tricks". To what degree might these endeavors prove negative to one's mental health is yet to be accurately diagnosed. So your craze to do this and your craze to do that. Some saw your craze to get married. Not me i've had a "marvelous" marriage. And if my daughter Kendra has even half as good time as Jennifer and me; she will be at peace with herself -her husband [ Jason] and the world. Kendra & Jason get married this Saturday. I've had to do very little - get a haircut- try on my tuxedo [find my lost bowtie] i better find the bowtie tonight-or i'll be wearing a 24" blue silk around my neck and that won't look right. When it comes right done to it my children are no longer children- and that makes me feel sad- but i get to spend my career with young children and old children and that's the way i want it. So.. Hip/Hip Harrey! for Kendra & Jason. And may you both be very Happy. Daddy.

Good evening Folks- hot day here at E. M. S.- Talked to Keith Barber, Franko- Joe Lyon, today. All bring back great memory's. Keith Barber "star" host of go magic go [ podcast] I told him don't leave college to go on the road with Andre Kole- he said " i'll leave for one year" i said you'll never graduate- he didn't graduate. Now he's with The Kevin Spencer Illusion Show [light's and sound] Franko -very talented street magician-escape artist- hypnotist-[Road Warrior] Joe Lyon was talent here at Eagle. He's very skilled manipulator of all materials- did 13 ball routione no [shells] Maybe i can have him talk about some of this here soon. Years ago i'd ask people-old timer to come in and talk -they'd usually say i don't have anything of interest -but they do [we need to stay connected to the past] Deceased local Roy Pratt said he had nothing to really share; entertain me for hour's and hour's over years & years with great stories. They traveled in a big old convertible-top down open air- more than one show a day -small town america. Helene wore evening gown, Roy white formal tails. Once behind a cattle truck- the cows let "it" fly and i don't mean carmel corn. He told me what a mess- they stopped at the Mobile station and had the kid hose down the outside of the car, the inside of the car & then -them from top to bottom- Showbiz. Thanks for sharing L/K.

So what's new -Congratulation's toTom O'lenick-aka-[father of the Bride] Daughter Kim is Marrying Ross; soon to be Tom's son-in-law. Poor Ross, he will now feel obligated to sit through many of Tom's card trick's. I wouldn't say they're boring ; I'd reserve that comment for his mental magic trick's, but the card tricks are old. I think i may have even taught Tom soom of those old card tricks. I put myself through college doing card tricks and sponge-balls. Really just doing magic tricks for hand-out's; pocket change -food -and a place to stay. I went to college at Saint Cloud State. One evening i was dining at the Press Bar[ 3 taco's and a beer for a buck]- and i was trying to earn that buck-i was doing a cigarette vanish, at the end of the bar, for the bartender-and lit a small piece of flash paper. In a dark place like a bar, the room got very bright for just a second. Bartender say's what's that? And from the other end of the bar appears a second bright flash, now he say's -How did you do that?. "Can't tell it's a magician's secret"[ Got me another tray of Taco's] Well at the other end of the bar; was my new friend-- Tom O'lenick-Mister flash-paper himself. Had never met him before -but we traded i.b.m.#'s and ever thing was cool. Tom and i continued to see each other and now both of us have 25 year old daughter's getting married this summer. Man! Tom; " where does the time go?" Ya can only say that if your close to sixty. So here's to Tom O'lenick & Congratulation's and Best Wishes to Kimberly & Ross. Larry Kahlow.

Happy Memorial Day- My uncles were in ww2-Buck & Iver, Ray & Joe. Small town America southern Minnesota. On the farm & in town. As a kid i'd be doing magic tricks, for my cousin's- Aunt's & Uncles. Sometimes time cousins weren't so cooperative. But adult's can do strange things also- I was doing some card tricks with a svengali deck -and one of my little cousins farted -and Iver said to Buck i'd pay a hundred dollar's to do that [wasn't sure, at the time,what that meant] but everyone laughed and the attention was switched from me to Iver. Iver say's Larry have you seen this one and took my svengali deck betweens his two big hands and tore it in half. WoW. [that was the first time i saw that] my face showed surprise -then hatred he'd ripped my svengali deck to pieces. Well i put my tricks away. And then we had ham & scalloped potatoes-apple pie. After dinner everyone smoke cigarettes & cigars and put the ashes on there plates. We stayed over-night, and the next day i got even with Uncle Iver. I knew he kept his leg under his bed [he got his real one blown off in the war.] I had a Roydon card box -very well made. I had planted a duplicate queen of hearts in his fake leg. Then the next morning i said Uncle Iver here's a new one i invented i put the queen in the card box-gave the box to him- he opened it up and said -where the hell's the card- and i smiled -took the box and said - in your fake leg- and walked away. All my uncles are gone now. I remember these guy's- they were ruff & ready and very interesting to be around. l/k

I use to produce a bowl of fire from under a large cloth. Good trick . One day, i couldn't find the large cloth - so i produced the bowl of fire from the bag that i carried the bowl in; put on the cover and the fire turn to a live dove. still a good trick. Cloth covers for hippity-hoppity rabbits makes for a good idea also - b/w icon's on each side of the cloth covers - end of trick it's ready to be packed away. As a kid i use to ask for corduroy pant's for my b-day & Christmas -i didn't like corduroy -but i liked cutting the pant's leg's off and making carrying bag's/case's for stratosphere and crystal cylinder - hop-hop rabbit's, milk pitcher [you get the idea] my mother alway's thought i wore those pant's out to quickly. My mother bought me a sleeve bouquet and a cardboard die box from Eagle Magic Store [and boy was i happy] bouquet was my opener -die box big finnish; still part of my collection. As a teenager when visiting E.M.S. i'd be talking to Elsie- Vernice -& Doris Davids[Doris was the owner] I think it was Elsie who sold me a trick called "Haggie's/Baggie's"[production bag she said -so easy "she could do it"] I looked at it on my way home on the bus-and thought this must be the biggest -Turd in magic- a plaid cloth tube-opening in the top -opening in the bottom and a hole in the back. Your suppose to stick your hand in the top; out the bottom -wave- then stick your hand out the back hole a pull some production item's out of your's sport coat or suit jacket-pull those item's out of the top of the plaid bag. At the time i didn't realize this is Carl Ballantine's big trick-[i'm not thinking comedy magic] But i did start thinking about body loads and jacket's and pocket's-and that i'd rather buy tricks from Doris than Elsie. These three old ladies use to sit around the back room of Eagle Magic Store and eat cheese sandwiches -drink pabst blue ribbon and -play cards. I caught them at it more than once. Larry.

Why doesn't somebody just take the masked magician- "out"; squash 'em- hit 'em- snuff-pop-cap-zap-bang -bop; eliminate... the "masked" Magician. I'll pay for it. $100. free magic tricks. Maybe even a couple of practical jokes -if you really make him suffer. Put hot sauce on his mask and stick it were the sun don't shine. Yes the show is pretty boring [i don't watch it] but i have to constantly be asked what i think about it/him. I've met this guy; i thought he was a "dick head" before he put on the mask.So now less- when audience's say cool- "how do you do that?" they really don't want to know the secret- They want to see more cool tricks- cause it's fun/ entertaining. But they'll like it less; when they know the secret. Don't defend this show- it doesn't make for better Magic or Magicians. I don't know where genii & magic magazine stand on this constant expose. Or the magic clubs- where's the international brotherhood of magicians?- where's the society of American magician's? well here i am and i've got a hundred dollar bill in my hand - so who has another and another & another?.- well o.k. mines really just a gift certificate-but someone else might have a couple hundred $'s-if ya' know what i mean.l I'm glad i got that of my chest, now let's work to eliminate. The Magic Collector's Association convention had a exceptionally good lecture by Tad Ware. Tad's lecture included photograph's of a sinking ship carrying the Great Nicola's illusion show and family and cast members.Pictures of the lifeboats who's rigging's and block& tackle broke-away; the lifeboat now perpendicular to the water people falling from the boats into the water.These photo's now being seen for the first time; truly chilling. Nicola's illusion show lost to the sea forever. While i was away at the convention Jennifer was minding the Eagle Magic Store. The deal this month is $10. close-up mat's[black] Also i would like to find a couple more die box please advise if you have one you can sell or trade. I've done 2 b- days at the store this week; and everyone had a marvelous time and i do enjoy doing them.Larry

well hello again - went to the magic collectors association convention in Chicago [April 22nd - 26th] Tad Ware's lecture on Nicola was marvelous and had great information i'd like to mention more on this subject in the near furture. The 3rd auction of Jay Marshall's magic collection [by auction house potter & potter] was held sun. 26th. Many of my friends bought item's, i didn't. [ above photo Gabe Fajuri on the right , Kahlow left.] Gabe was the mastermind for this year's M.C.A. convenion & and the proud owner of potter/potter- i hope they did good business. He also has Squash publishing co. [ printing very good books on magic history] and on most sunday's Gabe sell's svengali deck's at the mall.[i just don't see; where he get's the time?--So that last part isn't true - i can "see". So dealer's room, lectures, presentation, conversations with old friends & new[if you have any questions about details re: convention- just let me know] Johnny Thompson was the recognized person of honor. Harold Martin - Gene Devoe - Marvin Burger- Louis Tannen- men of mystery & business men; most didn't make alot of money running a magic shop. Just couldn't imagine doing anything else once you did it for awhile. You wear many hat's and learn your way around people and situations good and bad -learn to think on your feet. Ever conversation like a tennis match- trying to be helpful and reading between the lines -and truly reading minds; i do ever day- so thanks for the education and keep 'em coming, so as long as i can pay the rent i'll always be here. Happy April fool's day - yes i was the one to put black shoe polish on the toilet seat and plastic wrap over the bowl and i put laundry soap in my little brothers peanut butter sandwich. it was all great fun- until things happen to you. So i've been selling these jokes and pranks for decades and they have become to common to me-but all the mischief they can create is chilling- one day a women must of had 75$'s worth of jokes on the counter when someone gave her a bang lighter[not me] and KKkaa-Boomm- she run's out of the store-an hour later she called me and she not happy... she has to change her outfit - then needs to come back and buy those jokes to use at a corporate "fun day". So i've sold thousands of pounds of rubber dog crap, miles & miles of fake vomit, a million gallons of stink perfume and i do sometimes think how many heart attacks with the bang lighter and maybe she just got lucky with an ankle sprinkler-instead of-- now a days i don't take any chance's- i shake the pen and the ink shoots on my shirt/ not yours- in the 45 seconds it takes for the ink to disappear- i might get punched in the nose. But all these jokes can make for a once in a lifetime memorible experience's- that we've all had or witnessed- i hope. so when's the last time you pointed your finger at someone and laughed like heck.. and blew snot bubbles out of your nose? well i use to do it everday. Jennifers birthday and valentines day always make for a fun weekend -Jennifer's b-day the 13th. She's recently cut her hair very short -looks great on her., makes her look 39 again, and again & again ..if you know what i mean. And i say that because she's the greatest wife a man could ever have[and she occasionally reads these.] A couple of day's ago a man with his son[8] asked do you remember a lecture you sponsored in the mid-70's & gave away a 100$ gift certificate- i explained i sponsored many lecture's in the 70's- but only one gift certificate- the Vernon lecture- his farewell tour- paid him 1,000.$'s-- now this man then a 8 year old kid won the gift - and he say's 100$ bought alot of magic tricks - i guess. And he was now here at E.M.S. with his son to buy a magic trick- which they did. Yes the Vernon lecture turned into a impromptu magic convention -people came in from all over the 5 state area and canada. Vernon stayed for 2 days- hung around the store and told stories continually- i have pictures of Jennifer sitting on Dai's lap at Eagle- she looks 19 -that's because -she is 19- i hope i haven't lost those pictures. I ran into Vernon several times after- always remembered -alway's said hello. Kahlow.

Well it's been along time since my last visit-Also- let me be the" last" to say happy holidays- merry christmas- and happy new year -It's been very busy here at the store, and at home, since thanksgiving-and now recently- i came up with a malini egg bag routine -got out my linking rings-unlocked the mystery to cardiographic- threw away my vanila fudge albums-and i'm back doing magic shows.The new smaller spring animal from M/M'ers is very nice -i like the size- can fit in your pocket.Many visitors at Eagle Magic Store -friend Larry Anderson from L.A. [jaw droppers] fame -is intown for a week-good magic in that series and larry explains it well -i have sets for sale. Giovanni [ the great magician] stopped in giovanniexperiences.com- very generous man- we were talking about the 3-shell- and he sent me his booklet regarding same -just excellent. I have a great birthday party package i'm offering here at the store go to website for details- I'm looking for old die boxes for my shelf- if you have any to contribute, please let me know. Did a parlor show in a western suburb-i had a great time and so did the audience- talked about the history of Eagle Magic Store - did a few old tricks and ended with cups and balls -and they went wild. The minnesota skeptics group met here last sunday - Hypnotist John Ivan Palmer fielded questions from the group-"Is hypnotism real?" Possible example's of hypnotism.. the state of mind you are in when someone says something to you and suddenly you realize you can't remember what he said... the feeling of being healed after leaving the doctor's office.. something so complex and unfathomable that it stops, captivates and controls. Everyone had a marvelous time. If you need back-up for magic show's [ you can't do -for any reason.] keep me in mind. Howdy - This past wed.[9/3] i did a magic show at Eagan Market Fest[intermission]for a jazz concert. While dining at Stepfano's Restaurant here in Burnsville - met Elizabeth Kautz [Mayor of Burnsville] Very nice lady. Jennifer and I wished her well in her upcoming election -and i told her i was looking forward to making use of the new performing arts center; here in Burnsville. While here in town working the RNC ,Mitch Praver from National Public Radio stopped into Eagle Magic Store and had a good time looking and talking about magic & magicians- i'm searching boxes for some old stuff for his collection. Well i had a great time dismanteling the most beautiful magic shop in the u.s.a. and building the 2nd most beautiful, and had a great magic convention-put in a new hot water heater- then Jennifer thought we should have a new floor and tile in the bathroom -so had one of those also and by the way had a great 4th of July -while i'm trying to get magic tricks & jokes out of boxes on to shelves and showcase's- everyone's got to be someplace-[back in the time machine folks.] I was coming home from a magic convention when i was 15 [competed, won third place] and stopped by Harold Martin's magic shop in Peoria- he gave me a empty cardboard box- said"go downstairs,and you can put as much magic tricks in as can fit for $10." I went down stairs and saw a hugh collection of magic -inboxes-on top of boxes- on the floor- knee high. i came up with an empty box, and said i don't have $10. He took the box an chuckled " maybe next time." It didn't upset me the way he put it, we just both felt bad i didn't have $10. I always keep a ten bill hid in my wallet encase someone else ever say's that to me. I do want to sell more used magic if anyone knows of magic props that need a new home keep me in mind. Hello Everyone - Eagle Magic Store is moving- to Burnsville. we'll be moved completly by July 1st. I will be closer to home- can walk or bike to the store. I've been doing more performing and teaching and it's been very exciting. Many friends of E.M.S. have helped make this possible, and thank-you all. People interested in Magic&Magician's from all over the country; and all over the world have found their way here for the past 109 years-there have been [7] prior moves-and they continue to come- the next move the same. It's been my pleasure to serve the magic community since 1970 and a store front operation seem's to be the most helpful to the community. It's been thrilling to picture Collin's Pentz in the backroom of Eagle Magic Store with Harry Houdini-Howard Thurston-Harry Blackstone. The store was so busy today it's hard to pack and unpack boxes- I wear all the hats.I had some nice people in Eagle Magic Store from Montana. Mom Dad & Jack i started Dad out in the early 70's with his first magic trick Hot Rod and the young son received a nice hot rod and svengali deck We [EMS] made a hot rod with large, very plush gems -beautiful brite- vibrant colors.The guy who buffed them scratched his name on the end of many sets of the hotrods-[2sticks per set]: rayher-- it would be fun to see a set again -My son John is graduating from Burnsville High School tomorrow night. Of course he's a talented guy with many interest's-magic, juggling, balloon sculpting and then all the sports- got a "letter" in tennis and is a artist- now where did that come from oil painting, sculpting, carvedblock prints. Working as many hours as i have - i wasn't always there for everything -but nobody can be [can they?] i was there for most of it- so congratulations to ''johnny boy" how did you grow-up so fast. When people ask "when do you open and close?" i sometimes say i don't know when i open but i do know when i close- 5:30-- cap&gown at 6: so in leaving a little bit early. i think John's spending some time a the store this summer-he'll have a chance to meet many new face's- Good Night. Another fun day here at Eagle Magic Store. Grant's chain welding -i'm looking for other Grant magic -if you have anything you care to part with let me know- so funky -old tube's, box's and screen's that's what i need. This new masked "magician" garbage is cold- Here's an idea- why doesn't Bruce Nash from - Nash Entertainment -buy the right's to a book and do a real movie- He's going to do a book about a fictional magician who conjures up his own illusions -to escape from the law, cause he's on the lam from the law- what's that nonsense - with his fox t.v. show he's conjured up nothing -Nash has taken many, many Creative and talented Magician's illusions & life work and revealed these secrets to an audience who after watching the show, might wish they hadn't. I think his cheezzey announcer must have went to Mr. Cheezzey's radio school- that's what nash should reveal next- it would be cheap to do that's important of coarse. The secret's of mr. radio man - his hand cupped around the microphone- Come to the race track this SUNDay>SUNday>sunday.. does that work anymore -they keep saying it - one of the secret's of mr. radio school, i guess. Well bruce is just one of those cheap marketeer's who will do anything for a buck and it's getting worse folks- oh here's another one he could do --- secret's of his 3rd wife and the pool boy revealed-probably couldn't pack-it-in- to a hour slot-could alway's finish it up............ on a 2 hour climate on SUNday SUnday..Sunday - o.k. so there- back to learning the secret of the grant's chain welding trick. Sometimes don't you wonder- where will i be in 10 years- or 1 year or 1 month- will I know- for me- behind the counters of Eagle Magic Store. That's kind of fun to have that privilege. This is the best time of year- Oh Spring - rain, sun, flowers, wouldn't it be fun to ride your bike to work- then you wouldn't have to complain about all those nasty gas prices- that reminds me lota bowls, flash paper, and sleeve bouquets all back in stock. I've got a couple big illusions- i'm letting go cheap if interested give me a call. I've meet many cool people. The Great Roy & Madame Helene [ Roy Elmer Pratt b. 1913-d. 1986] - [Helen Elizabeth- Fredrickson- Pratt b. 1915- d.1971] Roy and Helen performed illusions and mind-reading all over the country- big show's and small show's - even the small show looked big-always immaculately dressed- evening gown's and tuxedo's- presentations that demanded attention. When Roy did the De Kolta vanishing bird cage- He held the bird cage w/ canary by the tips of his fingers-straight on to the audience- Helen- upstage-3/4 turn toward's audience- all attention on Roy. "One, Two," Roy would say--then on the beat of 3- KaBoom!!- the bird cage had vanished at the Great Roy's fingertips. Unknown to the audience- the boom came from the 22caliber blank pistol held at Madame Helene's side; she smiled- they applauded. They were doing a Carnival- Roy told me one show he couldn't find the 22 caliber- he borrowed a 45caliber from a "carney" friend., vanishing bird cage time- Roy say's 1-2- KKKKaBBBoooom- the 45 blows half here dress off -her nylons-burns her leg. Roy tells the audience -Madame Helene will not be reading minds after the show today- she didn't talk to Roy the rest of the week. Many marvelous stories. Well-- Hello again - remember- it's important to remember., I'm looking for 8 by10's ,window cards, magic posters Eagle Magic Store catalogs, flyers, copies of the Eagle Magician[which was a monthly magic magazine published in 1915 by Collins Pentz] Pentz knew most all the magicians of his era- famous and not so famous- he had in the back room a box filled with brass pocket tricks by Carl Brema & Sons-i'm not sure where that ended up and a'm curious. Also looking for Eagle Magic Store tokens. I continue to receive items from E.M.S. past- thank you- I had several customers from Canada in recently- they love their magic tricks. and can buy more than ever. Hy Harris does that ring a bell -anyone? Adel will be home from college - John will be thinking about his first year of college- Kendra's trying to pay for her college [ she's the business office manager of a growing local accountant firm ] I'm trying to come up with a method of lowering my gasoline consumption. I enjoy planting and growing flowers - i get to start that again here soon - Adel works at a garden shop past few summers- Have you ever read Cleitus Monsons booklet 50 tricks with spring flowers -- i'll bet you haven't- i'm cleaning out some old booklets -you might be interested- secret stuff- not commonly seen. Howdy Kahlow here- April fool's day- i would always load up on jokes-- as a kid- on april 1st-- long ago.. - my mother had a brand new formica clothes hamper[ only thing new she ever had, she later told me ] I placed a fake m-80 with a long green fuse on top of my mothers hamper- I had a cigarete lighter in my hand - " mom look at this" i lit the fuse- she ran over to the hamper and tried to knock the m-80 off the hamper with the back of her hand- but just managed to knock it over- the long green fuse continued to burn- a long black burn mark on the top- of the only thing she ever had new. Well- this didn't work out the way i would have liked- so the syranwrap around the toilet bowl- the shoe polish on the toilet seat- the stink bombs and itching powder were all better received- one of Harry Anderson's visit's to E.M.S.-- a clerk put a lighter on the counter that Harry used-- it had a mouse trap type gimac that snap his finger's -bad. He was jumping around cursing- i felt sorry for him- at the same time i was holding back this grimace-this small smile and laugh- i've heard many amazing stories, about people using, these practical jokes & Gags. I've got to find a set of those theatrical Maskes- to hang above the joke counter- because it's always at somebody's expense- that make these items legendary. Ya want some Peanut Brittle? Howdy- Collins Pentz started more than one magic club " Hat & wand" magic club was one of them. I recently received some books and catalogs- w/ H&W imprint inside. Fun to see really all the marketing and advertising he did - kind of makes me feel lazy or fortunate- i don't know- you pick. I know there are plenty people selling and talking about magic and magic tricks that know nothing about "it" or the history. Eagle Magic and Joke Store was refered to by Pentz in the (40's) as Eagle Magic Factory- the business mfg. magic tricks- and you could send Pentz your wooden and metal props, and for a small fee, would refinish them with the "EaMaFa" finish- now I've talked to many old timer's, from all over the country- and they say it worked -finish didn't- scratch- chip-fade- dent- and what the hec- was it? Pentz was always at work and always thinking- Goodnight Larry.

My father cut of his thumb about 6 weeks ago -one of those nasty working around the house on saturday afternoon type accidents- the V.A. couldn't sew it back on - I matched him up with a large Vernet thumb tip- he loves it -looks great. Over the years i've heard many stories about finger choppers-wrist choppers-swords thru neck-guilotines. Decades ago i sold this"pro" magician a milson/worth wrist chopper- a really beauty. He was working at the minnesota state fair- he rushed into the store [it was a saturday] he whipped the wrist chopper at the back wall of the stage-it fell to the stage floor with a thud[he had interupped us in mid chinese sticks] and told me it didnt work-and he had pinched someone- and that embarrassed him- and i was suppose to stick it where the sun dont shine- and he rushed out-sad face. well i guess i forgot to tell him- this magic stuff- you've got to practice- the Milson/Worth chopper and many other choppers- the thumb of the volunteers hand needs to be on the top- not the side. Two weeks later i sold it for more than the first time- beautiful- should have kept it. More decades ago - i was watching Mark Wilson do a head chopper- he's just about to push the blade down -an audience member stands up- and yells "stop!" scared the heck out of me- i guess the boy was grabbing the side uprights with his hands [ to support himself] and Mark didn't realize- so he fixed that. I probably did sword thru neck more than- Tom Ogden- after awhile you learn to look for a lady helper who doesn't have a 3 year-old sitting on her lap.[ as your about to put the sword thru- the 3 yearold points, crys- "he's killing my Mommy"- it's almost kinda funny- but the crying distracts the audience. I guess my dad's pulling he's thumb off for his buddies at the gas station- but needs help with buttons and shoelaces. So friends -be thankful if you have all your parts- and read those instructions. Which reminds me- also- why i got started here- i have abeautiful Micky Hades finger chopper right now- can be examined and i can show you my routine. See Ya Larry.

Well i'm painting the living room- really i guess it's not me painting the living room , it's someone else painting the living room- I'm supervising the painting of the living room-wait, well i'm not actually supervising, Jennifer's doing that- i'm paying for.... i probably won't do that either- here's what i'm doing-- i'm smelling paint fumes and getting in the way and not being able to find my stuff-Oh well just another difficult day as king of the castle- and when all the work is done -i'll be able to hang some very nice magic posters-which is good. Many visitors from all over the world during this holiday season- can't chat much- keep on mov'en. My side of the family Christmas eve /jennifers Christmas day. We both have large familys-many children and grand children. So i give&teach colorvision- ballvase- cups and balls. Great fun- I'm still looking for magic kits. Bill the locksmith stopped in with some handcuffs for me- i continue to be working with both locks and handcuffs- leg irons -I have a Murray [1] sheet poster [australian escapologist] I've recently framed -and want to put together a display with handcuffs around the poster. I'm looking forward to performing more show's than usual- the store has been very busy- son john is available for balloon sculpting gigs -keep him in mind. I have many magic kit's for sale - still one of the best way's to get started-ball vase-cups&balls -- that first magic kit was great-- years later i'm starting to have a pretty good collection of both. Daughter Adelaide is going to England for Christmas- daughter Kendra to Florida - which makes John at the top of the list for the work details. Jennifer and i look forward to a fireplace and a cup of tea. Winter in Minnesota- don't you [we] love it- i guess so i'm still here. Kahlow at E. M. S.

Happy Thanksgiving to all-Yes- anotherbusy day here at E.M.S. Several visitors from out of town- James & Bonnie Nagel from St.Louis stopped in and we had a great chat- Jim has been very active in the International Brotherhood of Magicians [ for decades ] and has helped at all levels.
Years ago Dr. Earl Reum [ from Denver i believe] was in the store he said Larry, what would you be doing if you weren't doing the magic ? and i looked at him and said i'd go back to my old job- What was that ? he said - I was a jockey- and it cracked him up - he snorkelled- It's Late- Best Kahlow

So Halloween - has come & gone - good - Thank you- and now i'll be looking for new props , books and dvd's for the season-- the last quarter of the year is just alway's the most hectic isn't it? How many times this-- how many times that- How many times have i been asked "how did you do that?"or even more enjoyable --That dumb sheepish look on an adults face - that they don't have a clue- [how i did that] O.K.- a different thought - Past -Present-Future ='s [R.E.A.P.] remember[learn] - exist - anticipate - promote. Howdy- Just saw Bill Arnold today-talked about the David Hoy [& the tossed out Deck]he's a nice man and a very busy corporate magician--Bill say's George Tovar and his wife have moved to Minneapolis-[George is one of the Magicians from Triple Expresso] Last week saw Kathryn & Graham Putman from Royal Magic -Fun Incorporated. I've been happy to sell the Royal Magic products for almost 4 decades- i've sold 50,000 nickels to dimes- they have everything for the magician[cups and balls- pentro penny- pray vase- color vision- all favorites. Last week Jim Berg came in with Tammy & John Calvert- John and Tammy look great- I would not ask the average man on the street who's the older Jim, John, or Larry? John Calvert is 96 years old and vibrant. Other recent visitor's Tim Gabrielson & lovely wife Rebbeca started to tell me about his trip and performance to England & I.B. M. convention- and we got interrupted by not 1-2 -but 3 customers they all had agreat time- and i demonstrated 40 minutes of magic- and they rewarded me with stack's of cash- Others who recently signed in Tom O'lenick, Dave Stahl, Brad Gudim, Sean Paul. Sean and his beautiful wife Juliane had a nice write up in the July '07 Linking Ring Magazine. Sean and his wife are very talented and have a great big magic show in Branson, Mo I can't wait to see them. So there - if you need anything call and ask and i'll order it if i don't have it. Recently- Paul West- Eugene Burger & Jim Cunningham stopped by - What a nice group of guy's -and I tempted them with all kinds of marvelous magic trick's from the back room- I'll be available for teaching more private lesson's this fall-ask about price and details. Yes i'm still looking for cups & ball sets - if your not using yours -let me know if you'd like to sell them or trade for something you would use. I also have a nice pair of doves for sale.; and an Owen's Magic dove in balloon trick- the Best- Who alway's did that trick so well -was Bruce Jensen [Bruce does everthing well] He's not been feeling well - he has some serious problems- it's terrible to see a friend struggle- magicians are lucky to have this hobby/craft/art - the goddess of magic has been very generous to those who show her a modicum of respect- many reap significant benefit's with little work- i'm starting to sound like Collins Pentz-mystically aquila from Eagle Magic Store legend- well that's just O.K. Howdy - Jennifer & me plus kids [John -Kendra/Jason - Kendra's boyfriend] Had a nice sunday at the renaissance festival- m.j. & Jonathon Madden did a good job with wrist chopper -mental epic and sub trunk- dad stayed home to rake leaves. Paul West is starting to look more and more like a festival icon -which is good- he's always there and turn's in a great performance. Steve & Pat Carlson have a beautiful booth- selling steve's art work- Steve will also be doing Magic tricks in his booth - Pat play's the harp everyday- look for them when your at the Renaissance Festival- very talented couple. Dew Drop Juggler's- with new guy Caleb -are very funny-they were already very funny- I guess now there very-very- funny. Caleb throw's knives at Mick and Jason that's the good part- then he almost mis's 'em that's the funny part. Eggsactly Lloyd & Rosie rule - before dinner Rosie plays the kazoo while Lloyd & Gabe play musical chair's with one chair- everyone else has to sit on the table- will i guess you had to be there. I have a very large brass ball Vase -if you like that kind of thing- stop by and visit it. thanks Kahlow

Howdy Kahlow here -- Sean Paul & Chris Stanley Magician's from Branson , Mo stopped into E.M.S. for a great visit- there revue show in Branson was recently written up in the I.B.M.'s Linking Ring Magazine [July issue- i think] Sean Paul and wife Juliane produce the show with comedien Chris Stanley and numerous animal acts cat's and dog's-also starring Frankie the monkey- complete with devil horn's and attitude. Lloyd & Rosie Brant will be on t.v. 9/16 10:35 On the Road Jason Davis ch. 5 the Wackey Chickens- performing all over the country- currently at the Renaissance Festival- great fun to watch again and again- Have to run thanks Larry...

hello-- Kahlow-here-- Back to school- It's been very busy here at Eagle Magic Store- I talked to Tim Gabrielson -he's fine-- getting settled, in Las Vegas- He's got his own showroom in Vegas- can't wait to visit. Tim's going to England next week to perform at a magic convention- i'll have more details soon. Max Kreuse quite his NewYork city jewelry store job and is doing magic tricks full time - Max is working on a big show- I hope to see a dvd soon.
